Hot Cross Bliss Balls

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

A portable, healthier take on a favourite Easter treat, Hot Cross Buns. This could also be a great holiday activity to get little ones involved with helping with the ball rolling!

You'll Need:

½ cup raw almonds

½ cup oats

¼ cup pitted dates

1 teaspoon mixed spice

½ teaspoon cinnamon

2 teaspoons currants

½ teaspoon citrus peel (optional)

1 tablespoon coconut oil

A little dark chocolate (80% cocoa or more) for crosses (optional)

Method:

Place almonds and oats in a food processor or good blender, and blend to a fine powder.

Add spices and dates and blend well.

Add currants (and peel, if using) and pulse a few times to mix.

Transfer mixture to a bowl and stir through coconut oil.

Roll spoonfuls of the mixture into balls and place on a plate or in a container, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. If you'd like to add crosses, melt a little chocolate and transfer to a piping bag or ziploc bag (cut off the corner to pipe), and pipe small crosses on each ball.

Store balls in the fridge for up to a week.
